Dr. Jane was born in England. She is well-known not just for her work as a primatologist and environmentalist, but also as a wildlife scientist. She began her professional life in the field of wildlife biology by taking a position as an assistant for the well-known anthropologist Louis Leakey. He initiated her into the field of research pertaining to chimpanzees at Gombe Stream National Park, which is located in Eastern Africa. 1964 was the year that she successfully finished her doctoral studies in ethology at the University of Cambridge, with the assistance of Louis Leakey. She has been given the nickname “Leakey’s Angel.” Her research focused on the behaviours and cyclical lives of wild chimpanzees. She was an important contributor to our understanding of the cognitive abilities and thought processes of wild chimpanzees. Her finding that chimps, like humans, possess the capacity to build tools is one of her most well-known discoveries. She first made this study in 1960. During the course of her research on primates, Goodall gave each individual animal a name rather than assigning it a number. This is another intriguing fact about her that you should know. In 2002, she was honoured by United Nations Secretary-General Kofi Annan with the title of “United Nations Messenger of Peace.” In 2004, Prince Charles honoured her by bestowing upon her the title of Dame Commander of the Order of the British Empire. In April of 2008, the Montana State University Medal for Global and Visionary Leadership was given to Dr. Jane as a recognition of her outstanding leadership.

Ecologist and wildlife biologist Nelson is a native of Trinidad & Tobago. He has degrees in both fields. At the moment, he serves as the Chief Executive Officer of the Asa Wright Nature Center in Trinidad’s Arima Valley. He studied under Dr. Stanley Temple and earned his Master’s degree from the University of West Indies. He then went on to get his Doctor of Philosophy degree from the University of Wisconsin – Madison. His work on the reclassification of the numerous types of plant life that may be found growing in Trinidad and Tobago earned him a lot of notoriety. In 1991, he gave a speech to the General Assembly of the United Nations in which he discussed the need of preserving neotropical rainforests. After that, he started making appearances on a variety of television shows, which finally led to his being a well-known celebrity. Ocean Mysteries with Jeff Corwin is the name of the wildlife adventure series that he presents at the moment.
